Bruce Field Scholarship
The Bruce Field Agriculture Award is sponsored annually by the Central New York Farm Progress Show, Inc. and offers $300 to a graduating senior boy and girl who reside in Herkimer County to be used to further their education in agriculture.
Bruce Field was a past Agriculture Extension Agent and first Team Leader of the Herkimer/Oneida County Dairy Team. He was always willing to pass on his agricultural knowledge to anyone who listened and was interested in the youth of our area feeling "they are the future of agriculture." Bruce's untimely death stopped his personal education endeavors, but this award, in his memory, will help a boy and girl in Herkimer County follow his path.
Applications must be submitted to Cornell Cooperative Extension of Herkimer County by May 1st and are available through local high school guidance offices or by calling Cornell Cooperative Extension at (315) 866-7920. The Bruce Field Agricultural Award Guidelines
PURPOSE
In recognition of his untiring efforts in the service of agriculture in Herkimer County, the Central New York Farm Progress Show, Inc. has set up this annual Bruce Field Agriculture Award.
Bruce's years with the bank, consultant in farm management and active volunteer with many organizations will be remembered with this yearly grant to young people, who are residents of Herkimer County or who attend Herkimer County Schools.
The purpose of this award will be to recognize these students from the farming community who have done outstanding work and to encourage their careers in Agriculture.
AMOUNT OF THE AWARD
One award of $300 will be offered annually to a male student, and one award of $300. will be offered annually to a female student.
GOVERNANCE
The fund shall be administered by the Central New York Farm Progress Show Committee. Cornell Cooperative Extension of Herkimer County will assist in advertising and judging.
SELECTION
The selection committee will be appointed annually by the Chairperson of the Central New York Farm Progress Show Committee.
Each of these members shall evaluate every application and all decisions of this committee shall be final.
ELIGIBILITY
Eligible applicants shall be seniors in a high school in Herkimer County or Herkimer County residents who are high school seniors attending a school outside Herkimer County. They will be graduating in the academic year of the award.
APPLICATION FORM
The application form will attempt to chronicle the school, community and farm activities of each applicant. A copy of the form is appended to this document.
Through the years, the application form may be modified by the judges to reflect changes in Herkimer County schools and agricultural life, but it shall always remain consistent with the purpose for which it was initiated.
